ADULT CERAMICS CLASSES

Chester Springs Studio offers pottery classes using both wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques. Tuition includes a materials fee covering use of studio tools, glazes, electric kiln firings and your first bag of clay. Additional clay may be purchased at $20 for a 25 lb. bag of stoneware or terracotta, and $25 for porcelain. Tool kits are available for $25, along with a selection of individual clay tools at various prices. Adult pottery classes are for students of 16 years of age and older. Please bring a towel with you to the first ceramic class for all wheel throwing classes.

In this handbuilding class we will explore how surface texture alters the resulting aesthetic of a glazed piece. Special techniques will include applying surface texture as well as other demos. Emphasis will be on the growth of each individual student. Beginners will focus on basic technique while more advanced students will have the opportunity to explore individual projects in their own style.

In this hand building (and wheel throwing) class, students with some experience, will learn to make interesting pots with pleasing surfaces. The class is designed to show you how to create the best surface for your pot at any temperature- the right pot for the right kiln. Explore gas reduction, electric kiln glazes or low-fire color. Chester Springs Studio offers many options. This class will help you make the right choice for your pots. Emphasis is on individual growth and group enjoyment. While all levels are welcome, advance students will benefit from skills developed in this pottery class.

Beginner up to advanced students will explore the many different forms that can be made on the potters wheel. Each session we will review basic techniques of working on the wheel including centering, forming cylinders, bowls, and ways to alter such forms. Tips on decorating and finishing our work with slip, sgraffito, and glaze will also be covered. Beginners will focus on the fundamentals, while advanced or returning students are free to work on individual projects.

Open Studio

Registration Fee: $35

Open Studio is available only to students (ages 16 and up) currently enrolled in a full semester ceramics class. Continue to work on your class projects during Open Studio. Tech support is available during some open studio times. (This option becomes available online during the process of enrolling for your class.)
