Celebrating Clay – Chester Springs Studio at 40! Artist’s Reception: September 23, 2 -5pm Exhibit: September 23 – October 7, 2018 Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, 2-8pm Saturdays & Sundays, noon-4pm  Chester Springs Studio, in Historic Yellow Springs, is commemorating a milestone 40th anniversary with the exhibition Celebrating Clay from September 23 through October 7, 2018. The exhibition enriches the Studio’s current clay and wood-firing program while simultaneously honoring our commitment to the field of ceramics and clay artists. Celebrating Clay features functional and sculptural work by thirty-three recognized ceramic artists from across the Delaware Valley. A festive artists’ reception with music by the West Chester University Steel Drum Ensemble and refreshments opens the exhibition on Sunday, September 23, 2-5 pm. Ceramics Demonstrations, throwing on the wheel and firing the wood-kiln, are planned for October 6, 2-4 pm. MITCH LYONS POTTERY WORKSHOP AT CHESTER SPRINGS STUDIO

Mitch Lyons will present a two-day pottery workshop Surface Treatments for Pottery at Chester Springs Studio on Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17, 2016, from 10 am. to 4 p.m. each day. Mitch Lyons Pottery Workshop Chester Springs Studio is honored to host a new pottery workshop with Mitch Lyons. Due to popular demand, Mitch Lyons has returned to teach Surface Treatments for Pottery. The workshop is open to all levels of potters. Cost is $210 for members; $230 non-members. Learn to apply innovative colored-clay surface treatments Create seamless hand-built pottery Come away from the workshop with original pottery (no trimming needed) Tuition includes white or brown stoneware clay Surface Treatments for Pottery Mitch will explore his unique process of hand-built pottery using a series of dowel rods in graduated sizes to hollow out the center.  This allows you to create one-of-a-kind surfaces by adding colored clay slips, textures and inlaid designs as the pottery is being formed.  The resulting ceramic cylinders can be virtually any length and diameter, of uniform thickness and without seams.  He will also show how the cylinders may be further altered and finished into a variety of shapes.
