About Historic Yellow Springs
Historic Yellow Springs is a living village steeped in a distinguished history, tradition, and folklore that stirs the imagination of those who visit. The village spans 300 years of American history. Today, the village includes 11 buildings and 142 acres mostly allocated to wooded conserved land. HYS continues to host a wide range of fine art, sculpture, and ceramic classes for adults, teens, and children, boasting some of the best art shows in the area. It contains a beautiful venue for weddings and events and hosts numerous trails for all who visit to enjoy, including passing the revolutionary war hospital commissioned by then-General Washington.

Job Summary
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of a comprehensive community engagement strategy. This role focuses on building strong relationships with individual supporters, partner institutions, and corporate sponsors to deepen community connections and advance the mission of Historic Yellow Springs.
Essential Job Functions
- Relationship Building and Maintenance:
- Develop and maintain relationships across communities focused on History, Environment, and the Arts to create opportunities for collaboration and enhance engagement.
- Cultivate balanced partnerships with local NPOs, businesses, and community members to support Historic Yellow Springs’ programs and events.
- Be curious to learn more about the people and resources within and beyond our community to gain knowledge that can help open new opportunities in the future.
- Community Engagement:
- Organize and facilitate regular community gatherings and events to foster collaboration and inclusivity.
- Support key staff and committees in the planning and execution of events such as the Village Open House, Fall Festival, Art Exhibitions and the Holiday Stroll.
- Act as a liaison between the community at large and Historic Yellow Springs to address feedback and improve the visitor experience.
- Advocacy and Outreach:
- Advocate for Historic Yellow Springs’ mission and values within local community discussions.
- Conduct outreach to identify and engage new community partners and volunteers.
- Engage School, Scouting, and other youth and family institutions to explore new opportunities for collaborative growth.
- Team Engagement and Personal Growth:
- Provide program support for other departments or activities.
- Attend meetings, training, and key program events as determined by program staff.
- Respond to emails and approval requests promptly.
- Maintain positive interactions to promote and retain Yellow Springs programs and activities.
- Actively engage brainstorming and review exercises.
Competency Requirements
- Management skills: Ability to motivate, coach, and develop volunteers and independent contractors.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across groups.
- It is essential to have excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills to ensure we are building trust within the community.
- A commitment to community building and collaboration.
- Familiarity with Social Media, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent work/life experience.
- Two years of experience in community engagement, volunteer coordination, or a related field preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Works primarily indoors in open office environment.
- Works regular hours; occasional evening and weekend hours are required.
- Occasional physical demands associated with carrying/moving art materials and supplies, installing exhibitions; must be able to climb ladders and lift a maximum of 25 lbs.
- Individuals must be able to move freely about the work site.
- Individuals must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
