Moore Archives Hosts Summer Intern
The Moore Archives at Yellow Springs was pleased to host Polina Ilyas who served as an intern for summer 2023. Polina will be entering her junior year at Syracuse University, School of Architecture, NY, pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture degree. She lives with her family in Chester Springs and has volunteered at the Chester Springs Studio for the past several years.
Polina tackled a large architectural drawing and planning document section of the archives that needed sorting, cataloguing and ultimately providing a finding aid for usage. These documents date to 1974 when HYS was founded and involve all of the structures in the village. She has accomplished a monumental job of doing all of the work needed for the finding aid. Next, with the addition of a flat file to the archives, these documents will be stored and available for research.
“It’s hard to express the impact curious minds bring to the daily work here at Historic Yellow Springs.” Executive Director Tim Compton shared, “That’s why internships and individuals like Polina are so valuable to the conversation. We get to pull back the curtain and show them the daily workings of a nonprofit organization, and they get to share new trends and perspectives of the next generation. Polina has left a noticeable mark on the organization, and we wish her all the best in future endeavors.”
Moore Archivist Sandra Momyer is also deeply appreciative of the difficult project Polina tackled and how she put together all the components to make the finding aid possible. She has succeeded in increasing the value of our collection and Sandra thanks Polina for her time and talent to accomplish this project for us.
Polina is the recipient of an Architecture Scholarship at Syracuse granted due to her portfolio and her academic accomplishments. She is in the Renee Crown Honors Program there as well as on the Dean’s List. She graduated from the Downington STEM Academy as an International Baccalaureate Diploma recipient and with Summa Cum Laude honors.
Polina lists many leadership activities, awards and accomplishments, and work experiences and skills to her credit. She will be studying abroad in England during the winter semester at college.
We wish her well in her future career path and thank her wholeheartedly for her summer work in the Moore Archives.
