Creative Place Marking Sculpture at Historic Yellow Springs
Historic Yellow Springs has partnered with the Schuylkill Highlands Conservation Landscape to use sculpture across our 142 acres of trails to help visitors explore spaces less traveled. In 2023 we began marking new trails to help visitors confidently explore the grounds at Historic Yellow Springs. Now we take the project one step further. Using primarily monochromatic (mainly red, yellow, or blue) sculptures, we will inspire those who explore freely. Works placed along paths with like colored indicators will reassure hikers they are going in the right direction.
Our sculptural trail-markings build on the mission of HYS to share, preserve and celebrate the unique living village of Yellow Springs.
It started with a map… to plan the sculptures
Back in 2023, we began marking new trails to help visitors to confidently explore the grounds at Historic Yellow Springs. That year our friends at Montgomery School brought a group of students to visit. They used these maps to find their way around the space. Dropping brightly colored rocks when they felt lost helped identify key wayfinding locations. These rock locations became the spaces we have identified for potential sculpture locations.
