Studio Internships
Internships are geared toward college students, recent ceramics graduates, and ceramic artists who are interested in furthering their ceramic education.
About the Program
The Studio Internship Program at Historic Yellow Springs is designed for ceramic artists, college students, and recent ceramics graduates who are eager to expand their studio practice, gain teaching experience, and contribute to a dynamic nonprofit arts organization. Interns become part of our vibrant arts making community while learning firsthand about studio operations, community programming, and the role of making within an arts and cultural nonprofit.
We are now accepting applications for our upcoming internship sessions. When applying, please indicate which term you are interested in joining.
Internship Duties
Interns perform a wide variety of important functions throughout the organization. Please note that interns may be required to do cleaning, physical labor, and heavy lifting.
School Internship Duties
Interns will assist with daily operations associated with classrooms and completed work. Duties include but are not limited to loading and unloading workshop artworks, maintaining studio equipment, cleaning and mopping the studios, inventorying tools and equipment, and other cleaning duties as assigned.
Kiln Internship Duties
Interns will assist with daily operations in the kiln rooms. Duties include but are not limited to loading and unloading kilns, maintaining kiln room equipment, organizing and cleaning the kiln room, chipping and recoating kiln shelves, and other duties as assigned.
Materials Internship Duties
Interns will assist with daily operations in mixing areas. Duties include but are not limited to Inventorying and maintaining studio glazes, testing studio glazes, cleaning and mopping the mixing areas, pugging reclaimed clay, and other duties as assigned.

Application Criteria
Historic Yellow Springs seeks individuals who are humble, hungry to make things happen, and are good at working with others. Additionally, ideal applicants are intermediate to established artists or students interested in furthering their artistic education and developing their portfolio.
Time Commitment
Interns for all Yellow Springs programs should be prepared to work four hours per week, one day a week during a 10-week for a total of 40 hours. This commitment is important to both the educational value of your experience as well as the stability of the program.

- Opportunity to share your voice and knowledge in department meeting preparations and gatherings
- Regular and Quarterly Check-ins with Department Staff focused on next steps in growth
- Cubby storage space
- Studio access for art making outside of prescribed class and open studio times
- Use of reclaim clay as needed for projects
- One annual individual membership
Additional benefits may be provided for select Duties of areas of additional focus to help the organization grown and evolve.
