Town Tours and Village Walks Summer 2023
TOWN TOURS AND VILLAGE WALKS at Yellow Springs is scheduled for Thursday, August 17. This program is in its 29th year and is sponsored by the Chester County Board of Commissioners, Chester County Planning Commission, Chester County Conference and Visitors Bureau, Chester County Preservation Network and the Chester County History Center. It supports the County Landscapes3 program.
The theme for 2023 is AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE OF CHESTER COUNTY and our program is YELLOW SPRINGS: BARNS REPURPOSED. We are partnering with West Pikeland Township and will look at the two 18th and 19th century barns at Yellow Springs. We will explore their origins and their repurposing over the eras of Yellow Springs history. It is interesting to note that with the long and diverse history found here, we have adaptively reused all of the buildings located in the village. We have been told that Historic Yellow Springs is a pioneer in adaptive reuse.
We are pleased to report that noted author and barn historian Gregory D. Huber will be our featured speaker and will address the history of Chester County barns and how they evolved. Tours of the barns will follow. His book The Historic Barns of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Architecture and Preservation, Built 1750-1900 has been a bestseller and the definitive history of barns. You will want to take this opportunity to hear his presentation.
Doors open at 5 pm with lecture at 6 pm. It is handicapped limited access.
This program is part of a summer-long free program visiting neighborhoods, villages, hamlets, and sites throughout Chester County beginning in June. View our website for details and you will be able to pick up a brochure at Yellow Springs and throughout the County.
