A New Executive Director Joins Us!
On January 24, Historic Yellow Springs announced the conclusion of a four-month search for a new executive director and the appointment of Tim Compton to assume the position effective February 6.
Tim comes to us by way of the Goggle Works Center for the Arts in Reading, PA, where he worked as their Artistic Director. A native of Indiana, Tim graduated from Ball State University in Muncie. After graduation, he worked for a decade at the Indianapolis Arts Center rising to the role of Adult Programs Manager.
Tim’s interest in the arts is broad-ranging. He is an accomplished artist versed in woodworking, printmaking, photography, and metal sculpture while focusing his primary artwork in ceramics. His interest in ceramics made him aware of our studio where he was a visiting artist using our wood-fired kiln.
“It’s a truly unique opportunity,” shares Tim. “In all the numerous opportunities I’ve had to combine unique histories with creative experiences, none has been as varied as Historic Yellow Springs. From the Lenape connection up through the immensely popular Yellow Springs Art Show, I see so much potential to continue the momentum and inspire the next generation.”
With a strong vision for the future of Historic Yellow Springs, Tim is exploring opportunities to expand art class offerings, repurposing spaces for more programming, formalizing visiting artist programs, connecting with local businesses and cultural institutions, and collaborating with other regional nonprofits in the arts, environment, and local history fields.
Board President Mark Ashton adds, “The Board was truly pleased with the breadth of experience our candidates presented, but it was Tim’s background helping manage art centers both in Indianapolis and Reading that presented skills we really wanted. The fact that he makes art while managing others in that process made the Board’s selection easy.”
Please join us in welcoming Tim as he steps into his new role.
