Join historian Dr. Robert Kodosky for a presentation on his new book, The Things They Left Behind: An American Military History.
Bringing military history to life by following the breadcrumbs left on the battlefield by those who served in America’s wars, Kodosky explores how personal artifacts provide a tangible connection to the individuals behind the uniforms. These objects preserve stories of heroism and sacrifice, triumph and loss, revealing the human experiences that shaped our nation’s history.
As the United States commemorates its 250th anniversary, The Things They Left Behind offers an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of those who served and to consider the growing disconnect between military service and civilian life. By focusing on the personal belongings carried through war, Kodosky demonstrates how these artifacts help bridge the gap between the front lines and the home front while making military history more accessible through the experiences of ordinary Americans.
About the Speaker
Dr. Robert Kodosky is Professor of History and Chair of the Department of History at West Chester University. He teaches courses in diplomatic and military history and serves as faculty adviser to Phi Alpha Theta, the Friars, and the Student Veteran’s Group.
