Join us Sunday afternoon, May 31st at Historic Yellow Springs for the opening reception of Radical Compassion: Art as Social Action, a powerful exhibition on view from May 25 through August 9, 2026. This celebratory afternoon invites visitors to step beyond the gallery walls and into the spirit of the exhibition through hands-on artmaking activities that reflect themes of connection, care, and shared responsibility. Guests will have the opportunity to engage directly with ideas explored in the exhibition while creating community sculpture alongside artist Laura Frazure.

Throughout the evening, exhibition curators Lyla Kaplan, Tim Compton, and Dr. Tara Tappert will offer behind-the-scenes insights into the research, archival materials, and artistic practices that shaped Radical Compassion. These informal conversations provide a unique look into the curatorial process and the historical narratives, from Quaker and abolitionist movements to contemporary social practice, that ground the exhibition’s vision. Light refreshments will be served, creating a welcoming space for conversation, reflection, and community gathering.

As part of the Greater Philadelphia citywide Radical Americana initiative organized by The Clay Studio, this opening reception sets the tone for an exhibition that asks an urgent and timeless question: how can small acts of compassion take root and grow into lasting social change?
